Q: My wife and I booked a cruise last July on Celebrity Solstice for the 6th; July 09, we booked a balcony cabin and thought we had a good deal, but I have since noticed more & more that fellow passengers in america are getting better and better deals to existing bookings through there travel agents (up to $800 off, on board spend & cabin upgrades) so I tried my TA and was offered the same cruise £50 cheaper, tips inc; $100 per person on board spend and a cabin upgrade but in order to get it I have had to cancel (loose my £200 deposit) and rebook, which I have done, but does this seem very fair? Next year I like many others will not book till the last minute, where will that leave the tour operators? 9 answers

Are you REALLY sure the UK Celebrity price has dropped ? I am in the same situation as you. Booked way back last April with a well known UK TA for this August aboard Solstice. Have been avidly reading 'the other website' and envious over the American's claims of price drops etc. But when I go back into Celebrity UK site and check the exact same grade of cabin / passengers / flights etc it still comes out £700 + than the price I am paying. I guess my TA had an exceptionally good deal last year.

Having re read your comments I focussed in on the 'American better deals aspect', but it appears your TA has stitched you up good & proper. Celebrity UK have a price promise, that if your cabin grade goes down in price Celebrity will reduce the difference up to the date of sailing. Now of course as Neil as said, if your agent won't play ball your with the wrong people. One of my first questions to an agent I've not used before is 'Do you honour the RCI Price Promise'. If the answer's no the phone go's down without further dealings......Regards Wilba

One of the facts about booking early is that you stand abetter chance of getting the cabin and the cruise that you want but it generally comes at a price. If the fare drops then you can not normally get the reduction. Many other companies will not consider reducing the price but in this account you may be lucky. Royal Caribbean which includes Celebrity will reduce your fare, if the agent agrees, if the price that they are offering has dropped from when you purchased it. One of the problems is getting the agent to agree because their commission is affected. So I suggest that you first contact Celebrity on 0800 018 2525 and confirm their price then talk to your agent again.. Good luck. … Neil

American's have better booking conditions: they can claim the difference if a cruise drops in price but us Brits can't. They often get better deals too. Many American TA's will not accept a CC for a booking, if you don't have a USA address - this applies to many US Travel web sites. Life's not fair!

Sorry but I don't know where your information is from but it's not very accurate. The biggest known American TA takes CCards & providing your booking an 'American' Cruise line you do not need a US address & you can claim the price drops just the same as US citizens. Yes there are exceptions, P&O, Princess, Cunard etc......Wilba.....ps. Price drops can be claimed in this country on RCI, Celeb & Azamara up until the date of sailing.

problem is finding a reasonably priced flight. I have tried this without much success. Can work if it is a cruise in Europe though.

That depends on the time ahead you book, 10 or 11 months ahead & you should beat the cruise flight hands down, with money left over.

If the American TA's are offering such a good deal why did yo not cancel & book with them? There was nothing stopping you taking the same advantage & the main American TA's have a Freephone Number so no different to phoning any UK TA........Wilba
