Q: Am thinking of booking with MSC to Norweigian Fjords. Am undecided to go for an inside or outside (that's all that's left!) As not sure how much light there will be coming in, since I will be travelling with hubby and 2 kids who need darkness to sleep. Anyway, my question is, what do the cabin grades mean? Is it the higher the number the better? As there are some cabin numbers, but also some guarantee cabins at different grades and wondering if it's worth taking the risk and go for a guarantee. The cabins that are left now aren't ideal anyway, so worth a punt?
Inside or outside?

Also, does anyone know what Special services - 415 All inclusive 24hrs vip means?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

On a guarantee you will eventually be given a cabin number but sometimes you may not know which cabin until right up to a couple of days before sailing which cabin it will be. Lets assume you elect for a guarantee Inside cabin then it will be ANY of the insides that you will get or possibly if you are lucky something better!. The deck plans are all available on the web and the different colours indicate different categories.

When you buy a guarantee that is all you are assured of getting. The lowest grade in that category. All cabins have numbers, you just won't know what the number of your room is until it is assigned. No one can predict what you will end up with - it may be the least grade, or you could be upgraded to the next grade - it all depends on how they are selling. Inside cabins have NO natural light.

Thank you for your replies Wilba and Bradbury. Which has answered my questions somehow, although I feel maybe I didn't ask it properly. The cabins which have cabin numbers, I understand what I'm getting, but the GTY cabins just have a grade, and as I don't know how the grades work on MSC, I didn't know if the GTY cabins were 'better than those with cabin numbers. Anyway, thank you both for your time and help :D

The higher the Category number is, it indicates the better (higher priced) cabin which usually goes on location. For example Cat 1 inside is on the lowest deck whereas cat3 inside is on the higher deck. However some would argue that its better to be on a lower deck as you feel less motion. Its all down really to location and where you want to be as the cabins themselves are no different in layout nor size. If you take a guarantee grade you will get that grade of cabin at the very least but also stand a better chance of an upgrade. As you are looking at the Fjords I would say if you can; get at least an outside so you have a window so you dont miss any of the spectacular scenery. The 415 is the code for their all inclusive drinks plan.

There no light whatsoever in an inside cabin, great for afternoon naps. Cabin grades are down to positioning. i.e. an inside on the bottom deck will be a lower grade than the identical cabin on top deck. An outside cabin will have a single picture window about 4 x 5 foot (approx) with heavy curtains that can be drawn.........Wilba
