We were in a 4 berth outside towards the stern and there was a huge amount of engine noise. You had to raise your voice to speak to each other when sailing and we are not a quietly spoken family. I can sleep for England but I really needed the earplugs I packed at the last minute. As you walked from the lifts to our cabin the noise got louder and louder as you got nearer the stern. This was our first and only cruise so we still do not know if this is normal. However although this sounds very negative we very soon got used to the noise and found it strangely soothing- I suppose it takes all sorts.

You will have one of the best staterooms on the ship. Midships on the Star is very close to Guest Relations and most comfortable, with very little noise. We had 5057 for two voyages and Maria, the stewardess is excellent. If you prefer a double bed, ask. They clip the two singles together and put two duvets on the bed.

The ones to watch

By Marie Turner

Over the past few years i would say cruising as a whole has really moved on in the holiday market, forcing all cruise lines to really pull out the stops. We have had the likes of Royal Caribbean and NCL launching monster vessels, P&O changing their tradional itineraries to keep up with Demand in popular areas such as Malta and Dubia. Also MSC and Princess bring our technically advanced ships, but recently a little unknown cruise line are also making waves and for me are very much the ones...

As you may know I’ve just returned from a week on board Navigator of the Seas, we sailed from Southampton to Spain, Portugal and France and the cruise was during the school holidays. We had a really fantastic time, and my little girl really loved the ship….which little girl wouldn’t? All in all we had a great cruise and I would without question sail with Royal Caribbean again perhaps next time we’d like to try one of the newer bigger ships. This cruise was our first as...

My Oceania Experience

By Anne Eaves

Anne Eaves's blog

I have recently returned from a 5 night cruise on Oceania Insignia and one word sums it up, Wow.This was my first time sailing on Oceania and the whole experience was exceptional. My colleague Danielle and I flew to Bordeaux to meet the ship and were met with a seamlessly smooth embarkation. We had a B1 Verandah Cabin on Deck 6 which was good size with plenty of storage space although the bathroom was fairly small but supplied with lovely Bvgari toiletries. As we didnt embark till 7pm it was ...
