I am sorry but I don't understand "even poss a half/none covered roof". You may not have thought about it but many of the ships now have very large balconies on the stern end and although some of these have partial cover they might prove your best bet. Problem is they are really sought after so getting one is not easy. You must also take into consideration the direction the ship is sailing as many balconies get no sunshine because for the whole cruise they are on the shady side whereas some, even under another balcony, get more than sufficient. Hope that helps. .... Neil.

The Neil, many thanks for the quick response With regard to the half/none covered roof I refering to partial cover - Looks like the stern is the best place but i'm sure they will sell out fast. Going by "youtube" video shots some/most appear noisy out on the balcony due to the "froth" which is discharged from the back of the ship. Are there any liners which you can recommend regarding good all round size of balcony, looking at most standard carnival these appear very narrow. thanks .

Problem is that balconies earn more revenue for cruise lines but the tendency is to make them as small as they can. If you look at the deck plans of various ships you will see that one or two of the balconies have that extra space because the ship's contours change, again these are at a premium and often can be overlooked from restaurants etc. We invariably have a balcony cabin but over the last four years I cannot remember one that was extra large apart from the stern ones where, incidentally, there is virtually no noise from the wash that I can remember. The only downside is that you occasionally get smuts from the stack coming down so be aware of white bikinis. Sorry I can be no better help. ... Neil.
