Q: Last year on The Thomson Destiny, any alcohol purchases from the on board duty free shop were allowed to be taken out of the shop straight away, but we were on the All Inclusive package. This year, we're going on The Dream in the Caribbean and NOT taking the All Inclusive package. Do they allow you to take any alcohol from the duty free shop back to your cabin to enjoy? Or do you have to wait until the end of the cruise to receive it? 9 answers

Just returned from the Destiny and we were allowed to bring alcohol on board, took some in our case and also purchased some cans ashore. Our cabin steward kindly gave us a bucket of ice every night and it was great having a few drinks whilst getting ready in the evening - it certainly saved us a lot of money.

We sail on Thomson Dream Feb 2012, from Barbados, and also NOT on the AI package. I emailed Thomson to to ask: If we were to purchase duty free from the Airport or Port on day of boarding the ship would we be allowed to take it on board? I also mentioned that on most ships on Embarkation day only, each person was allowed to take on one bottle per person of Wine or Champagne Thomson replied: saying NO Alcohol was allowed to be brought on board, and if so would be confiscated and returned at the end of the cruise, However they did say that on board the ship was a duty free shop selling Alcohol that we could purchase and enjoy a drink in our cabin! So make of that what you will? Hope this helps : )

That's a change of policy then, as we've never had any problems taking alcohol on board Thomson ships in the past.

Yes, standard Thomson practise. none of this 'retaining it for your convenience' nonsense.
