On Eurodam in may.No problem taking wine on board as long as it was for consumption in state room, otherwise corkage fees apply.Think taking a case on a step too far !

Were just back from HALs Nieuw Amsterdam departing from Venice. There was a large sign at the disembarkation point in each port to say that wine and champagne could be brought on board for consumption during the cruise but that spirits would be kept for you till end of cruise. In fact, the restaurant wine prices were much less than we experienced on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, anyway. The whole atmosphere was very relaxed, not the constant push to get as much money out of you as possible that we experienced on other cruise lines.

We just did a 30 day South American cruise on Veendam and bought wine and pisco sour (nice Chilean bottled cocktail) at nearly every port and brought it openly onto the ship. No one said a word or looked at what we had in our bags...even though it must have obviously shown up as bottles on the x-ray machine. The only time we had wine taken away from us was on a Norwegian Cruise Line Hawaiian cruise 7 years ago. However, I think even NCL has relaxed their rules a bit.

The party line is no alcohol to be brought on board but we did the same cruise in 2009 & ended up buying wine ashore in Croatia & bringing it back on board in plastic carrier bags which went through the x-ray machine quite openly.

There is no limit on wine, but spirits and beer cannot be brought on board. We took a few bottles, but saw many people taking cases with them. From the HAL website: Except for wine and champagne, alcoholic beverages purchased in the vessel's shops or otherwise brought on the ship cannot be consumed on the ship. Bottles and other containers will be collected for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage. A corkage fee of US$18.00 applies to wine and champagne brought to the restaurants or bars for consumption.
