The J2 package£32 per day pp is very good IF you both drink, ie you would need to take five Alcoholic drinks each per day to break even or ten tea/soft drinks/water The J2 Is unlimited for all drinks including the chocolate bar As Tea/coffee £2.50 a go Water £2.50 litre Wine £6 a glass Spirits neat £6 Mixer £2.20 If you do not take a drinks package, you do have constant access to chilled water, instant coffee, tea self made, ice cream and juices 24/7 for free plus you can have breakfast served to your cabin which includes beverages all free You have to buy the J2 two weeks before boarding, the X1 which is Lunch / dinner wine only can be bought on embarking along with the water package The J2 is restricted to drinks below £6.99, so you can not have a super alcholic drink (ie bombay sapphire gin or Glenmorangie whisky) but you can have Gordons Gin or Bells whisky at £6.99 each and you can order doubles ie you can not have a single Bombay sapphire gin at £7.30 but you can have a double Gordons gin at £13.98???,and seperately a can of Tonic, You can order a double Smirnoff Vodak, then order seperately a can of coke COMPLICATED but I nearly drowned on the J2 order a glass of wine for dinner, you get a bottle EACH BUT DO NOT even try to give it away to anyone other than yourselves, even other members of the Family NOT on the package Actually IF YOU PLAY FAIR then the waiters play fair with you (managers watching) So the drinks package is for YOU but if you become friends with others NOT on the package, as long as they reciprocate, then you can get a round up (How can I explain myself, You are allowed one drink per card for YOU only, so if someone NOT on the package buys you a drink, well the waiter, will have noted this so you can get your friend a drink back IF you try to keep buying all the drinks, then you will find they have been charged seperately to your account when you come to leave) Jimbo

sorry no , they take any alchoholic drinks off you when you return to the ship and return it on the last night......Ship is Italian so only BBC news on the TV and international entertainment....Smoking is still allowed in the cabins, plus side ...the staff in the Main Dinning room will offer alternatives if you do not like the menu. do not bother with a tux as a suit on formal night will do..

Main Dining Room mdr You can not take any food or drink onboard not even water, You pass through scanners the same as when you take a flight ALL food and drink is taken away, sealed new bottles will be kept and given back to you when you leave the cruise The J2 package covers every drink that passes your lips including the ones in the cabin mini bar, and water, cans of juice that you want to take ashore on trips It is two years since I was on the SERENA she was a beutiful ship, very roomy and clean, as all the COSTA BIG SHIPS are The theatre is three decks high, with very high tech stages The MOST IMPORTANT BIT is to read the daily news sheet that is put in your cabin every night It tells you what is happening and when, including what phone number and who to contact if you have a problem ashore, Lots of people chuck it away like junk mail through the letter box, then complain that they did not know xxx was free at xxx time or missed what everyone was buzzing about at dinner Have a great cruise Jimbo

Main Dinnig Room. We enjoy a drink so the J2 was a saving to us....you could have drinks any time the bars were open and raid the fridge.....Check with your cabin steward what you can have as it varies form ship to ship......Its not cheap approx £240 each a week. But a whisky and beer costs 12.36 euro, worked for us........you can purchase these packages up till 5 working days before you sail. Be warned November is when Costa put there prices up...re tips and packages.......Tips are compulary a 7 euro each per day.... Upgrade if you can and it is free. Costa discount cabins that are left 2 weeks before sailing so may be the time to look on there site then,,, and if they are cheaper than what you paid ask for an upgrade,,,, they can only say no....Hope it helps

The 'X1' drinks package only covers drinks at mealtimes, not shorts at the bar. There is a 'J2' package covering all drinks, but that is much more expensive. See: http://www.costaclick.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/8DC6ED80-9D78-49AB-B71A-D905A015508E/19067/DrinksPackage_090710.pdf for full details.

Myself and hubby traveled on the Serena last October and paid for the drinks package....it is well worth getting as drink prices are extremley expensive otherwise.....e.g. 2 pints of lager the equivalant to £12...
