Q: We have just booked a cruise on Azamara Journey, next April Miami to Rome(cant wait). Please could someone be kind enough to help me with a couple of queries that i have. Firstly is the onboard pricing in dollars(i think it is but just checking). Secondly do they add gratuities to the bar bills? I have read conflicting reviews some say the bar prices are very expensive and they add 18% gratuities others say there is no add on gratuities so i am a little confused. Also, i am a red wine drinker-so no problem for me, but my hubby is a beer drinker(real ales prefrerably) does anyone now what type of beers they serve and the prices too. 12 answers

I see that you have had answers to your queries. We are just back from back to back cruises with the Azamara Journey culminiating in the Rome to Miami one both of which were great. You might like to read my review which has just been submitted and I guess could be available very soon. You will not be disappointed by your cruise experience.

All pricing is in US$. Gratuities are included in the price and there is no need to add unless you wish to. The only gratuity added on board is for the Spa and these are at 18%. From April 2010 all wines with lunch and dinner are included, as is free soda, water and coffee. They also do a 50% offer on several wines daily which brings the price down to around $14. You can bring on alcohol for your cabin too if you wish.

Everything on board IS priced in dollars. Gratuities are NOT added and NOT expected. ALL gratuities are included in the price so it is only necessary to tip extra if you really want to. On our recent trip on the Journey it seemed that many tipped their cabin staff a little extra but no-one else. I don't think there was draught beers but I am not sure. I know our friend paid $3 for a small glass. Wines at lunch and dinner are FREE (if you drink the house wine) and it keeps flowing. ALL coffees and teas including specialities (without alcohol) are FREE. There is also conflicting opinions as to whether you can take alcohol on board for cabin consumption but you definately CAN. I hope this helps

I haven't cruised with Azamara this year but last year there was no limit on wine, beer or spirits taken on board either on embarkation or at any of the port stops. I have jusrt checked the Azamara website and it seems that this policy may have changed. It might be as well to email Azamara and ask teh question

On our recent Caribbean journey ( on Journey - a week ago) I thought this was limited to 2 bottles of wine on embarkation and NOT spirits. They certainly charge for spirit packages in the room - 1 ( or 1.5L) plus 6 sodas plus nuts - $50 - same as on other Celebrity ships. All prices in $ as noted elsewhere DO double check your joining package re drinks policy!! Ours clearly stated that NO alcohol EXCEPT 2 bottles of wine were allowed at embarkation and could attract corkage if drunk in the rstaurants Drinks are reasonable ( hotel) prices and have no 15 or 18% added Only added tax is 18% on Spa treatments. Onbard free wine is generally very good - served from bottles not carafes and they will serve it by the glass and will top it up as requested Note the other wine bottles are offerd at 1/2 price BUT this is as a package of 3 bottles onl. This caused the only row I had on ship on grounds of misrepresentation .

Thank you for your answers they have helped to clear up my queries. Also it was useful to know that you are allowed to take your own alcohol aboard so we will be taking a nice bottle of Southern Comfort to have on the balcony to watch the sun set.......cant wait. Regards Pam
