As you mention in your question Arcadia is an adult only ship. Unfortunately there are an awful lot of elderly people who don't like children. Therefore it is more than likely that the average age of people aboard is older than you might find on other P&O family ships.

My daughter and her boyfriend when they were 24 and 25 went on Arcadia and found themselves on a dining table of 6 the other couples being in their 70's although they said they all got on very well they would have preferred to be seated with younger people. They said that the majority of the people on board were over 50 with only a handful in their age range (from what they could determine on the second sitting for dinner and around the ship) and many in their 80's+ with a high proportion of mobility scooters and wheelchairs. They also said that the ship went very quiet after dinner and although they went to the disco every night it was either empty or only a few people and they all left around midnight even the DJ shut up soon afterwards due to lack of people. Of course it also depends on the destination - they went to the fjords which I think is extremely popular with an older crowd maybe to the Med or the Caribbean the cruisers would be a bit younger. My daughter said the cruise would have suited my husband and I better (don't think it was a compliment we were only 48 and 55 then) anyway I think if you want to be with a lot more younger people then a mixed age ship is probably best - we are all on Azura next but not in the school holidays so hopefully there will be a better spread of ages.

Whilst Indy is a great ship, personally I would try one of the Thomsons ships. They are a bit more intimate and you would rpobably make more friends that way. The night life is also far better for the 'younger' generation, I find P&O a bit dull apart from the deck parties. Either way have a great cruise and do notbe put off by some random comments people may make

After our experience on the Arcadia I would say you would have to be crazy no matter what age you are. Why not try the Independence of the Seas, I think you will find that a far better option. I am now awaiting the usual moronic responses that I usually receive after I give my personal opinion of this ship.

Mr Gibson - I do hope that you don't consider this to be a "moronic response"! Youngcruiser probably has absolutely no idea what you are talking about; I, and countless other regular cruise.co people do, and I totally understand your feelings towards P&O in general and Arcadia in particular. It does get a little tiresome however when any question/review linked to P&O will contain a snide comment from you even if it is of no relevance to the original issue. If the poster had been asking for opinions about cruising on P & O with a disability, your experience and opinion would have been totally relevant ... but s/he is asking is the right ship for the younger person. Your comments on Arcadia are of no relevance to this question.

A very "un-moronic" response. I understand where you are coming from, but I will not be ceasing my anti P&O campaign whenever I get the chance. It is not like I do not have our Arcadia cruise experience to compare to other cruises we have taken, we have cruised with nine different cruise lines and have completed nearly eighty cruises, our P&O cruise even discounting the treatment from the "X head of security" was the worst in just about every department apart from the price of their drinks, and a couple of their shows were very good. The picture of my disabled wife humiliated feeling worthless, and in tears, soaked through to the skin waiting for his (X head of security) staff to finish their break “They are entitled to a break you know” will ensure my anti P&O campaign will continue. I am sure that if some on you loved was treated in a similar manner then you might feel the same as I do.

Brilliant answer to this guy who just can't help himself when it comes to comments on P&O,further more his argument was with a particular member of staff on Arcadia not and he has said this himself a problem with the ship.He stated that other than the problem he had with the member of staff he had NO other problems

There is a night club on the Arcadia and many bars so there's plenty to do, we loved it
