Happy With Your Cabin Choice?

Choosing and booking any holiday is both exciting and sometimes hard work getting everything exactly as you want it to be. Dates, resort or cruise ship, hotel room and of course, for a cruise, the perfect cabin in the best position.

Some people like to book well ahead to get what they want whilst others like to leave their decision until the last minute in the hope of getting a bargain, and if you really are flexible you may well get one! As far as cruises are concerned if you want the best suite on the ship then you definitely need to book sooner rather than later.

OK so you`ve  decided on a particular cruise , want a balcony and in a good position so lets look at how to get the best one available.  Generally speaking as near to the middle of the ship and not too high up is the place to aim for as this will be the most stable part of the ship. This should also give you a lovely clear view of the ocean as you sail along, but a lot depends on the region you are sailing in. Going through the Bay of Biscay of Transatlantic then a midship cabin is a must as the sea is likely to be choppy even during the summer months. If you are flying to the Mediterranean in the summer months then stability will not really be an issue. Port or starboard? Really depends on the destination as lost ships continually turn during the voyage.

This also applies to inside and outside cabins too, personal preference also plays a big part. Some people will book an inside cabin on a high deck as the hate being at the bottom of the ship but are working to a budget.

We`re almost there now cruise and cabin chosen, deposit about to be paid but then the inevitable question ” If you were to be given a complimentary upgrade would you be happy with that ? ”

Before you say ” yes please ” have a quick think. Chosen the lowest grade of inside as it is in your budget ? then say yes. In the highest grade of balcony and the only possible upgrade is to a suite then again an upgrade  can only be good. Chosen the midship inside cabin on deck 10 as you don`t want to be lower down, then stay where you are. Chances are you could be moved to an outside cabin on the bottom deck as the cruise line would consider this an upgrade. Same thing if travelling with other people and you are in next door cabins – one cabin might be moved and the others left where they originally booked.

Of course if you book a Saver or Guarantee fare this doesn`t apply as ,the cruise line will allocate your cabin anyway, but for everyone else that upgrade might not be what you think it is!
