Royal Announce New Homeport For Brand New Oasis Class Ship

There has been a major announcement from Royal Caribbean that it will build a new world class cruise terminal in Miami, Florida, and the news doesn’t end there. The line have also confirmed that it will base an Oasis-class cruise ship there but there is no word yet of which ship this will be.

The new terminal will be a striking addition to Port Miami which will even be made to look like Royal Caribbean! The design shows that the new port will look like a crown from portside and Royal Caribbean have dubbed it the ‘Crown of Miami’. The 170,000 square foot terminal will be lit up at night, adding another landmark to the skyline of Miami.

The chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean, Richard D. Fain, has stated: ‘We are truly excited to be working with Miami-Dade County and Port Miami to create not just another cruise terminal, but a truly iconic building. It is a symbol of our commitment to Miami, the city where our company first started almost 50 years ago, and we can’t wait to bring another Oasis-class ship here’.

Royal Caribbean currently have three Oasis-class ships in service with two more also in order. The unnamed new Oasis-class ships will enter service in 2018 and 2021 and could be the vessels that homeport at this new terminal.

The new terminal will not be the only addition for Royal Caribbean in the coming year as the company have committed to adding a 20,000 square foot Innovation Lab to its corporate headquarters. This Innovation Lab will be located in Port Miami and continue to generate the line’s industry-leading, innovative vessels.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez has stated: ‘Royal Caribbean have been an important part of our world-class community for almost 50 years and this expansion will once again make Port Miami the line’s largest cruise port in the world. I thank them for their continued investment and commitment to Miami-Dade.’
