Celebrity Cruises has donated £30,000 worth of gym equipment to a youth centre in Liverpool.
The company’s ship Celebrity Infinity regularly docks at Liverpool and senior officers asked if equipment could be donated after the liner’s gym underwent a refurbishment.
Equipment including treadmills, stepping machines and high-specification exercise bikes was then handed over to the Unity Youth and Community Centre, which is based in Dove Street, Toxteth.
Capt Michael Sympouras, master of Celebrity Infinity, explained that Liverpool has long been one of the favourite ports of Celebrity’s staff because of the welcome they receive in the city.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: “We are delighted that young people and other members of the community will be able to make good use of it.”
Celebrity Cruises recently announced a series of Signature Event Sailings that are set to be operated by the company over the 2015-16 season.
Liverpool Seafarers Centre was also a beneficiary of a donation from Celebrity Cruises and the facility received two exercise bikes from the company.
