Mobile phones are banned on cruises !!

Cruise lines ban the brand new Samsung phones due to fear of explosions.

Several major cruise lines, including Carnival and Royal Caribbean, have banned passengers and crew from using Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones on board their ships over fears of “dangerous explosions” caused by overheating.This is just after Samsung claims sales globally having already reached 1 million .
The phones had been recalled last month following various reports of exploding due to a fault with the phone’s battery.
Guests and crew in possession of an applicable Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone are required to turn off their device, disconnect the device from any charging equipment, disable all applications that could involuntarily activate the phone and also protect the power switch to prevent accidental usage.

Other cruise lines are also said to be joining the ban are Cunard, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Seabourn, P&O Cruises, Costa Cruises , Azamara Club Cruises, Thomson Cruises .

How on earth can the cruise lines monitor this and actually get passengers to adhere to this ?
I can only imagine the look on my 16 year old’s face telling her she can’t use her phone on board the cruise !!

It would be a battle that’s for sure !!

For the moment there are believed to have signs up saying
“If you own a Galaxy Note 7 and have not replaced your recalled device, please power it off and do not charge it for the duration of the cruise. We recommend storing electronics and valuables in your stateroom safe,”

Not sure how this can be enforced and if there are penalties for those who ignore the warnings

To me it’s the same is travel irons etc it is a health and safety risk so surely it has to be taken seriously.

In society now everyone seems to be on their phones.
