Outstanding Oceania Food!

Let me tell you about the food on board Oceania Insignia…

Where do I start? That is the question as it was all amazing.

First of all breakfast on ‘The Terrace Cafe’ was amazing, sitting outside at the rear of the ship (through the buffet restaurant) – a great selection of food for breakfast. My favourite whilst on a cruise ship is smoked salmon & scrambled egg & this didn’t disappoint – it was delicious!

The Terrace Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner serving your favourite buffet style food.  No reservations are required for this.  The staff serve you so you just tell them what you want and they put it on your plate.  We had breakfast here every morning and had dinner here on the last night, the setting was lovely watching the sun set alfresco.

You can also sit inside at Terrace cafe if you prefer and very well laid out:-

On the first night we were lucky enough to eat in Polo Grill, this is the steakhouse on board & such a lovely restaurant.

“Polo Grill embodies all the elements of a classic steakhouse, expressing them with timeless reverence. Mindful of tradition, the decor features crisp, white linen tablecloths, dark wood furnishings and supple, high-back, burgundy leather chairs. Each course stands as the very definition of time-honored favorites, most notably the beef dishes, all of which are USDA Prime and dry-aged for 28 days to enhance tenderness and flavor. Succulent seafood dishes such as Grilled Swordfish and Whole Maine Lobster Gratinée are also classics in their own right.”

Polo Grill is open for dinner only and you need to make a reservation, no extra charge but very popular.

I had the lobster and boy it was good, again another treat for me when on a cruise as would never have lobster anywhere else.

The staff are superb and very attentive to your every need. The atmosphere in Polo Grill was lovely, great food but very relaxed also.

The next evening we ate in Toscana, this is the Italian theme restaurant on board, again no extra charge but need to make a reservation, this was most people’s favourite that I spoke to.  Toscana is open for dinner only.

“In Italian, Toscana means Tuscan, and just as Tuscan cuisine evolved from rich family traditions, many of our recipes originated with the mothers and grandmothers of our own Italian culinary staff. Presented on elegant, custom-designed Versace china, masterfully prepared dishes exemplify the essence of Tuscany and celebrate Italy’s culinary passion. Perhaps the evening begins with an appetizer of Octopus Carpaccio with Champagne Vinaigrette or the Artichoke and Parmesan Cheese Timbale with Black Truffle Sauce. Classic dishes from other regions of Northern Italy are featured as well, such as the Minestrone alla Genovese, Lasagne al Forno alla Bolognese and Osso Buco alla Milanese.”

The cost of one dinner sitting (the plates etc) is $1000 as made by Versace and beautifully designed..

This was my favourite restaurant too and the food was incredible.. also the bread selection was awesome, look at this:-

The only restaurant we didn’t get chance to eat in was the main restaurant which is called ‘The Grand Dining Room’ – no reservations required here and you dine when you are ready.  This was a beautiful restaurant as we did take a look during the day on our tour of the ship.

“Handsomely decorated in rich woods, designer tapestry fabrics and oversized armchairs, the expansive dining area exudes classic splendor. The Grand Dining Room’s formally attired and classically trained wait staff graciously serve course after course of European-inspired cuisine or delectable alternatives such as healthy Canyon Ranch® signature dishes. As variety is essential, menus change daily with a brilliant choice of at least ten appetizers, soups and salads and twelve entrées at dinner.”

The Grand Dining room is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner.  I’ll just have to go back on to eat in here…

Waves Grill is open for lunch & afternoon dining only, no reservations are required.  They serve the best burgers I have ever tasted and such a choice too. Perfect for a quick bite after returning to the ship after an excursions when lunch has finished.

This is located just by the pool too so great if you are a sun worshiper & don’t want to go too far for a bite to eat.  We ate here twice for lunch.

Here is what they offer:-

Each day they offer afternoon tea at 4pm in Horizons which did on our last day, this was the best afternoon tea I have ever had, the choice was amazing and so much choice, I haven’t really got a sweet tooth but made an exception on this day & devoured a few cakes & sandwiches with a lovely cup of tea.

Reservations are not required here you just turn up and be served by the white gloved waiters who tempt you to have more..
There was also a string quartet playing who were brilliant and perfect for this afternoon tea.

I went live on Facebook with this so here is the video if you wish to watch it:-

There is also a coffee bar on board called ‘Baristas’, here you can get your favourite coffee, iced coffee etc, I had a lovely latte from here and a also small pastries to go with your drink.  A lovely area to just sit and relax also.

So overall I can definitely say the food on board was fabulous and the best I have tasted on a cruise ship, so if food is your passion, I recommend Oceania for you.  They do pride themselves on their food and I can honestly say no cut backs have been made like on some other cruise lines.

Call me for more info or to book your next Oceania cruise.

Till next time – happy cruising!
