Solo Travelers!! How much is a Single Supplement?

As you may well know, Cruising is very popular for solo travelers, from dedicated single meet ups on-board to meeting like minded singles at dinner, once on-board there is always something on offer for the solo customers. So why do some cruise lines charge double for them to come on-board? They may be occupying a double cabin but they won’t be eating double the food or drinking double the amount of drinks on-board. I have included below the best Cruise Lines to sail with in which you won’t be stung by a huge double supplement.

Cruise & Maritime

I think Cruise & Maritime are the best Cruises for Single Passengers, they have great events scheduled on-board for guests that are travelling alone and there is also a great atmosphere on-board. In general, Cruise & Maritime always have great prices for both double and single cabins. But their Single Rates lately have been fantastic, for example, they have a 42 Night Sailing to the Amazon, West Indies & Azores on the 7th January and I have booked several single passengers on this Cruise and for an inside it was only £66 per night which is an incredible price.

Fred Olsen

Fred Olsen have been voted ‘Best for Solo Cruisers’ by Cruise Critic. They arrange special activities on-board for solo travelers and they even have dance hosts on-board so that single passengers have a dance partner should they wish to dance. Whilst they do offer single cabins on all of their ships, some can seem quite high but not to worry they so offer certain cruises with no single supplements and they regularly have special offers for single passengers.

Saga Ocean Cruises

Saga offer a ‘Single Mingle’ drinks party on-board in which you can meet other guests that are also traveling alone. They also offer an exclusive singles lunch and singles meet up during the port excursions. Saga offer a far higher proportion of single cabins than most other ships, from Single Inside Cabins to Single Suites. So, no matter what type of cabin you are looking for…Saga has a range on offer.

Marella Cruises (Formerly Thomson/TUI)

On all of their fleet, Marella Cruises offer single inside and outside cabins. These are best to book early as they are limited especially on their smaller ships. Their Single Cabins are Great Value and are only slightly higher than the per person rate in a double cabin. Also some of their Double Cabins do offer a reduced priced for solo passengers and these are approximately a 50% supplement which is still a great option compared to some other Cruise Lines.

Celebrity Cruises

As it stands on the majority of Celebrity Ships, the single supplement is double the cost minus the taxes. However, with the new Edge Class there is some exciting news……they now have single cabins available on-board. There aren’t many so you will need to book early but this is great news.
