Say Hello and Wave Goodbye!

There has been big news this week from 2 of the UK’s favourite cruise lines and I’m sure this will have been met with mixed feelings. P&O have announced that Adonia will be leaving the fleet on 9th March 2018 where she will end her last cruise in Barbados. This may come as a surprise to many, not least passengers who were booked on sailings after this date. Passengers are being offered the chance to change their cruise with an onboard credit amount of £100.00 per person  or cancel free of charge. This seems such a shame as she only re-joined the fleet In June this year after being part of the Fathom project.  Adonia is not saying goodbye  to her sailing days though  as she will be joining Azamara cruises and being renamed Azamara Pursuit,  joining Quest and Journey in their fleet. Adonia was originally built as an “R”ship for Renaissance Cruises as were Quest and Journey so she will be a welcome addition. Azamara are known for their destination immersion and longer stays and overnights in ports so this will enhance their opportunities having another ship.

As P&O say goodbye to Adonia Cunard will be welcoming a new ship to the fleet in 2022. The ship has yet to be named and there is lots or speculation as to what the new Queen will be called, or will it be a Queen at all? The ship will be 113,000 tons and carry 3000 passengers, so capacity wise she will carry more passengers than the 3 ships currently in the fleet. Queen Mary currently carries the most passengers at 2691, Queen Victoria carries 2057 and Queen Elizabeth carries 2087. This will be the first time since 1998 that they will have 4 ships in the fleet together. More information is to be released in 2018 as to what we can expect from the new ship, and I personally cant wait ,as its always great to see what a new ship is like. Watch this space.
