Another Adult Only ship for P&O

It has been announced that P&O are going to make another of their ships Adult Only. When Aurora returns from a refit in March 2019 it will be Adult Only. This means there will be 3 Adult only ships with Aurora joining Oriana and Arcadia. Oriana became adult only in 2011 after it had a multimillion pound refit which seen the addition of 27 new cabins and the introduction of the Ocean Grill restaurant which was opened by Marco Pierre White. Arcadia has always been branded as Adult only since it was launched in 2005.

It will be interesting to see what additions they make to the ship at the refit and what they will put in place of the Children’s Club and outdoor play area at the back of Deck 8. Anyone who has booked on the Aurora for 2019 will be offered the chance to rebook onto one of the other family friendly ships Britannia, Ventura, Azura or Oceana or the chance of a full refund.

This now only leaves one medium sized ship, Oceana , that will be available for families which  carries 2016 passengers. Families otherwise will only have the option of the larger vessels Ventura and Azura  which carry 3100 passengers each and Britannia which carries 3647 passengers. I wonder if this is gong to cause an issue as not everyone likes the bigger ships and with the addition of another 2 ships to the fleet in 2020 and 2022 all of the Family Ships  will carry 3000 plus passengers apart from Oceana.

The 2 new ships will be 180,000 tons and carry 5100 passengers each and will be the largest cruise ships built exclusively for British Guests. These will have all of the following included:

15 different places to dine including 8 speciality restaurants

10 Bars

16 Whirlpools

Choose to dine in 8 different places for Breakfast

Choose to take Afternoon Tea in 4 different venues

Various Venues for entertainment including some that will be Adult Only.

Do you think one of the new ships should be a smaller ship for those that like a more intimate atmosphere and experience ?

Do you think 2 ships totalling a capacity of over 10,000 passengers is too much?

What are your thoughts? Let the debate begin.
