Monarch wont stop the Bride…….

Working in travel is fun and rewarding and what could be better than booking peoples dream holidays .

However, this week has been a very testing and sad time in the world of travel and one I will be glad to see the back of.

With the demise of the country’s fifth largest airline peoples holidays and plans have been ruined and disrupted and there has been an emergency rescue to get people home safely.

I have had first-hand experience of this as one of my good friends is due to get married in Cyprus in three weeks time and guess what….it’s all booked with Monarch Holidays!!!!!

As we all know planning a holiday can be one of the most stressful things you have to organise at the best of times but to then suddenly have the bombshell that your dream wedding has been cancelled and you have forty of your friends and family left without any flights or accommodation it would be the stuff of nightmares.

Luckily my friend is a determined lady and she wasn’t going to let a little thing like this stop her from marrying her man. After hundreds of texts , phone calls and negotiating I can happily say that everything is all back on track and she has managed to secure her wedding again. We are having to fly out of Luton with Easyjet now instead of Birmingham but the main thing is we will be able to see her get wed and have the best day of her life.

There are lots of stories in the news of heartbroken travelers and other families that have been let down and its just awful.

I also feel for the 2000 employees who have lost their jobs and with Christmas on the horizon it will come as a real blow for them as they walk away from a job that they probably loved and I imagine are feeling a bit dazed by it all.

In a letter to staff, Monarch chief executive Andrew Swaffield said the “root cause” of the airline’s plunging revenues was terror attacks in Egypt and Tunisia, as well as the “decimation” of the tourist trade in Turkey.

With Ryan air cancellations, Hurricanes battering the Caribbean and threats of Volcanoes erupting in Bali surely the worst is behind us. I think things like this really put things into perspective and when you feel like you’re having a bad day it makes you realise it could be a whole lot worst.

Us British folk are made of tough stuff so I’m sure the travel industry will bounce back and we can carry on doing what we do best which is getting you the holiday you deserve.
