Let’s support the Caribbean people the best we can…. Get on a ship and go spend some money there.

I have spoken to so many people the last few days who are unsure about visiting the Caribbean now. Considering the most recent hurricanes in the area.

My reply to people who are unsure now, must be… Have you ever heard the saying about the calm after the storm?

Now don’t get me wrong I am devastated by what has happened to the islands most affected. The homeless people and families that have lost loved ones as well as personal possessions. Homes can be re built and the Caribbean islands are used to storms and putting everything back together. What they need most right now is for people with money to go and visit and spend money on the islands to help them get back on their own two feet.

Many ships will be changing itineraries for safety reasons and to ensure the experience that the guests on board get, is what they are expecting from the Caribbean. At this moment in time that is fine while the dangerous power lines, broken glass and all the debris is cleared from the tourist attractions. What those islands need right now is support from the outside world and for people to remember that just because the news has moved on to another dramatic story, that the clear up operation, has only just begun.

If you are due to head to the Caribbean soon remember to help the local people and buy something from them. Don’t spend all your money on the ship. Get off and have lunch or some drinks or bring back some souvenirs. This will show your support to help them rebuild their lives and be able to afford the things they really need right now.
