Edge-U-Cation!

Well its almost here.

The brand new celebrity Ship – The Edge will sail out of Fort Lauderdale on the 16th December 2018 and she is on sale now!

Celebrity describe the ship as Forward thinking, Transformational and Revolutionary.

From what I have seen it is all of those things and more.

Overseen by their Design ambassador Nate Berkus,  an American interior designer, author, and television personality the ship certainly turns heads.

The Staterooms, suites, and many of the public areas, have been designed by Top UK Designer and entrepreneur Kelly Hoppen with her unique eye for detail.

Some of the features of this ship are that 70% of the Balcony cabins are larger than on previous Celebrity ships. Bathrooms are 10% larger and they come with unique Hand crafted Cashmere Mattresses from Italy and Bedding and Touch screen controls which take care of lighting, curtains and heating all with a simple touch screen.

Celebrity are also introducing what they describe as an industry first, The Infinite Balcony, Edge Staterooms.

These have a Balcony section at the end of the cabin with a floor to Ceiling window flooding the cabin with light. Behind the Balcony section are French doors which can be closed to separate the balcony area and the Window has a button to press to lower the top half of the Glass down to create your open balcony when you want it.

They Describe this as an industry first which is half true but anyone who has travelled on a River cruise will know the River Cruise Lines have been using this design in their French balcony cabins for some time now.  They don’t have the French balcony doors to close behind but do have the floor to ceiling windows and drop down section opening up the side of the cabin.

The popular Aqua class and Concierge cabins will still be available and will all have the infinite Balconies.

The great news for Single Travellers is that they will have 16 Single Edge Staterooms featuring a Queen bed, a large spacious bathroom and the infinite Balcony.

In addition they will have 3 Suite types.

They will have 6 Edge villas with 950 square foot of space, sleeping up to 4 guests and featuring split level, 2 storey staterooms with their own 3ft plunge pool on the balcony area as well as a whirlpool bath in one of the 2 bathrooms.

They will have 2 Iconic Suites. Situated at the front of the ship above the bridge with possibly the best views at sea. With an opulent 1880 square foot of space excluding the outside space they are the largest in the fleet. These will sleep 6 in Two bedrooms with 2 bathrooms, one of which features a whirlpool bath and include a private hot tub.

Finally, they will have 2 Penthouse Suites which are very boutique hotel like with a blue and white theme. Very calm, cool and sophisticated. They also sleep 6 guests and feature 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

The familiar sky suites will also be a main feature of the Suite lifestyle on-board. With 146 suites in total. 3% larger than on other Celebrity ships and 28% larger windows to let in more light. They will sleep 4 with one bedroom and a sofa bed.

The Great thing about this ship is that they have linked 6 of the suites to concierge and sunset veranda cabins so at certain times of year when demand is high for family accommodation they can sell these as linked suites and guests staying in the concierge or sunset balcony cabin will still get all the same benefits as the suite guests in the adjoining suite.  These will appear as separate categories of CF and SF.

Suite class guests will be treated to their own reserved area “The Retreat”. This features their own Private Pool area, Hot Tub and Cabanas and a Bar of course as well as dedicated pool butlers on hand to cater to your every whim.  Previous Celebrity Suite guests will be familiar with Michaels Club, which on Edge will be re-invented as the Retreat Lounge. Here guests can access their own personal concierge to make arrangements on the ship for them, enjoy complimentary beverages and gourmet snacks as well as live entertainment. The perfect place to relax. Suite Guests will of course still have the exclusive Luminae restaurant in which to eat which again has been re-designed with exclusive menus crafted by Michelin-starred executive chef Cornelius Gallagher.

Guests staying in the New Edge Villas will have direct access to the retreat area from their Villas.

For the rest of us mere mortals Celebrity has not forgotten us. Tom Wright of WKK, who is famous for designing the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai, has been drafted in to design the Pool Deck, Resort Deck and the Solarium area. So ordinary guests will not be disappointed. Featuring the largest pool found on any Celebrity ship, Stunning Rooftop Gardens with a Rooftop Garden Grill serving a variety of Grill items and tempting snacks. There is a sunset bar and a stunning open space at the back of the ship with a whole host of technological features including movies, lighting effects and music. A giant 2 storey Martini Glass Jacuzzi is another feature of this area along with private cabanas to hire and a jogging track if you feel the need to work off some of those extra calories.

Not to mention the fabulous Solarium where adults can relax in peace.

As with most ships the Edge has its unique feature that is going to make it stand out in a crowd and it is the Magic Carpet. This structure on the side of the ship is a multipurpose transformational feature that moves between several decks providing a different purpose at each. On Deck 2 it connects with the stunning space that is the Destination Gateway. This is the first area you will see as you board the ship and is a bright open space providing a meet and greet area for guests, as well as an airy venue for lectures, talks, meetings and information gathering. At night, it transforms into an amazing 3D animation and entertainment area which is sure to become a main focal point. The Magic Carpet will take passengers to the Launches which like everything else have been revamped to make them more spacious and comfortable for guests disembarking the ship.

The Magic carpet moves up the side of the ship linking to other decks and becoming an extension of various venues, becoming a Bar area and eating/meeting place. Again, the Word transformational comes back into play.

Are you excited yet?

I am and this is only the start.

Celebrity are keeping some other features under wraps so watch this space and I will be getting you the low down as and when we get the news.
